ANZAC DAY 2015

The 100th Anniversary of Anzac was officially recognising by a very moving early dawn service at the Pickering Brook War Memorial on Saturday 25th April 2015. Well of 300 local and visiting residents braved the early morning chill to attend this special service. Organised by the Pickering Brook Heritage Group and supported by the Pickering Brook Primary School Choir, it proved to be a special service to be remembered for years to come. This was the largest crowd ever to attend these services since the new war memorial was erected three years ago. Visitors came from as far away as Tasmania.

We were very privileged to have as guest speaker Mr. Bill Gaynor, past president of the Western Australian R.S.L. Bill was our speaker last year and enjoyed the special atmosphere we have at this service so much that he immediately volunteered to be guest speaker for this years Centenary of Anzac. Included in his speech were some detailed accounts of a few of the brave soldiers that took part in this battle.

The service was backed by the beautiful singing of the Pickering Brook Primary School Choir. Their performance included a fantastic solo by a young girl with a magnificent voice. This girl will go a long if she decides to pursue this natural talent she has. Also there was a performance of two groups of three singers who blended their voices so well together. Well done all of you.

The new Public Address System bought by the Kalamunda Shire and supplied to us, proved the a great asset and success.

Pickering Brook Heritage Group volunteers prepared a "shotgun breakfast" after the service with all three barbeques going a full steam cooking bacon and eggs. Tea and coffee was also served complimented by genuine "anzac" biscuits cooked and donated be Lee & John Gregory of Mundaring.
